Ukraine is Fighting against Moscovian Hordes. Day 427. Meditations about the Offensive

It’s quite weird, believe me, to come across articles on certain American newspapers pages these days, the authors of which, on the one hand, impatiently stamp their feet in anticipation of the Ukrainian army’s offensive, and on the other hand, express their deep doubts about how successful it can be.

  • What is so strange about that, – my reader will say. – Just logical thoughts, attempts to predict the development of events, that’s all
I would readily agree with this, if it were not for the silly comparison that involuntarily comes to mind.
Just imagine, guys, a huge, ferocious grizzly bear of a very unpredictable temper living not far from two tribes of cavemen. From time to time, he lay in wait for them near their caves, but each time people have managed to avoid his sharp teeth somehow.
Eventually, a group of tribes, well aware of the danger, has gathered together in a big cave and guessed to block the entrance to their cave with a thick stone wall, leaving just a narrow passage. Now, that the grizzly appeared, they quickly hid inside, sealing the entrance tightly and felt as safe as one can feel in the presence of this unpredictable predator. Moreover, living together, they succeded to make more advanced weapons. Their arrowheads and tips of their spears were no longer of mare burned wood or blunt flint, but of razor-sharp obsidian.
The people living in the nearby cave did not build such a powerful defense however.
  • Why? – you ask.
For various reasons. First, there were few of them. Just some families. The other reason, they once lived in the forests full of grizzlies, and some hunters even believed that they were their descendants himself. But let’s come to the point.
One February evening, when the small tribe has gathered around their fire, enjoying its warmth, frying pieces of aromatic meat and admiring the magnificent sunset, a hungry grizzly bear jumped out of the forest and dashed to the people.
The hunters fought bravely, protecting their own lives and their families, but their arrows and spears could hardly penetrate the grizzly’s thick skin as to to kill it, and the wounded bears are devilish furious, you know. The hunters would slay the beast anyway although some of them were already killed and there were even more wounded, if it were not for the lack of arms. They’ve spent almost all their arrows and many of their spears were already broken.
Although the members of the numerous tribe were so concerned about the fate of their neighbours that they let their neighbours’ women and children in, although they’ve given their arrows and spears for the fighters, although a few of them even joined the fight, they didn’t haste giving their neighbours their best, razor-sharp, weapons, or offering the safety of their mighty union.
I don’t remember weather the grizzly was killed in that imaginary prehistoric fight or, beaten and wounded, eventually ran away back to its dark wood. I only know that there was none in the big cave meditating during all the fight on when the fighters start finally attacking instead of retreating or doubting of their victory. Perhaps because the the fight was in front of their eyes, not somewhere overseas, on the other side of the world, what do you think?
Meanwhile, the performance of the Minister of Shameless Lies at the UN headquarters seems to have impressed few. Nothing special in the world of orcs and ogres, isn’t it?
